Amazon has finally begun to come back online after the company’s server crashed across the globe leaving drivers unable to access their routes for more than eight hours

That´s according to a report Tuesday that offers a comprehensive look at American philanthropy. NEW YORK (AP) - Charitable giving in the United States reached a record $485 billion in 2021, though the increase did not keep pace with inflation.

By 7pm, three delivery service partners said an Amazon app used to communicate with delivery drivers is down, leaving vans that were supposed to deliver packages sitting idle with no communication from the company, according to Bloomberg.

The Giving USA report says donations in 2021 were 4% higher than the record-setting $466 billion contributed in 2020. But that it was down 0.7% when adjusted for inflation. Many nonprofits are now feeling the strain because giving is not growing as fast as price increases.

Reacting to the intense needs of the early COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the calls for racial justice, giving increased in unusual ways in 2020, but has generally returned to previous patterns.

Ditto setting up surround sound for your home theater. Two Echo Dots can still be paired for stereo sound, but I can't imagine recommending this over buying a better quality $100 speaker, like the Nest Audio or 2020 Echo.

This year's Kids Dot adds a fun tiger- or panda-themed design and genuinely interesting kid-facing content that you won't get on other Echo devices without a subscription (the Kids Dot comes with a free year of Amazon Kids+, which normally costs $3/month). Last year's Dot with Clock was a great device, adding a small-but-useful upgrade to the Dot. These alternative Dots use the exact same basic hardware, but they're more exciting products in part because they represent something beyond simple iterative improvement. They feel more sensitive to customer needs.

Jolie, special envoy for UN refugee agency UNHCR, said she hoped the book would also remind governments of their commitment to the global treaty enshrining children's civil, social, political and economic rights.

This is the problem of voice technology, and it remains mostly unchanged with this new Dot. I've written extensively about the problems of this structure, both for market competition and for individual privacy. Amazon, like its competitors, profits immeasurably from people using their devices, talking to Alexa, teaching their technology and providing vast amounts of private data for free. With this continual impressiveness, though, does come the trade-off of privacy. Using a Dot, as with any Echo device, requires you to use an Amazon account, which means agreeing to the company's terms and conditions.

When we tested them side-by-side last year, Google's Nest Mini boasted slightly superior sound to the third-gen Echo Dot, and this time around, the new Dot just edges past the Mini. If you're listening to acoustic music, such as Bon Iver's "Re: Stacks," at 50% volume, the speaker boasts warm tones, solid track distinction and good balance.

This was also home to Sir Christopher Wren and Hannah Twynnoy 'who has the dubious distinction of being the first person in Britain to be killed by a tiger, in 1703'. Henry VIII's wife, Jane Seymour, was from just down the road.

exchanged hard plastic shells for soft cloth exteriors, and a little visual evolution is welcome. Amazon even smartly kept the Dot's footprint the same as previous generations, so despite the taller frame, it won't take up more shelf space.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell won praise for his deft leadership during the maelstrom of the pandemic recession. And at a policy meeting last week, Powell announced an unusual last-minute switch to a bigger interest rate hike than he had previously signaled - and then followed with a news conference that many economists described as muddled and inconsistent. Inflation has proved higher and far more persistent than he or the Fed´s staff economists had foreseen. As threats to the U.S.

economy have mounted, though, Powell has increasingly struck Fed watchers as much less sure-footed.

HBO Max is stuffed with Classic Novels sci-fi flicks, as well as smaller gems well worth a watch. Aside from The Matrix and Blade Runner, there's little Spanish gem Timecrimes, Moon (starring Sam Rockwell) and Monsters (directed by Gareth Edwards).

Its combination of a clever voice assistant and impressive hardware packed into a tiny device with an even tinier price made it wildly and understandably popular (in sheer number of buyer reviews, it dwarfs every other Echo device on Amazon's online store). 2018's third-gen Echo Dot has been one of the best smart speakers in the short history of smart speakers.

So what's the difference? And Alexa -- who will answer questions, facilitate voice calls, control smart home devices, monitor your home for break-ins and plenty more -- performs identically on each speaker. In fact, the Dot does almost exactly what its earlier iteration does.

The front part has the TV on a wall, but there's nowhere comfortable to sit and watch it, and for that sort of money you might expect to have a basin big enough to avoid water hurtling to the floor when you wash your face.
